Thanks for the fun episode. I did a deep dive on Washington some time back and yielded a somewhat similar but also different conclusion. IMO, Washington was a genius at convincing whoever he was around that he truly believed in the thing that they were doing. Almost like a master at sales. I think people who are bookish (historians for example) underestimate this skill. I believe he was a lot smarter than some people give him credit for because he really was great at getting what he wanted. People really believed he was on their side because he was great at convincing you that he was on your side and your belief or cause was valid. From this perspective, a lot of the accounts about him make more sense. He was our first great politician at a level we really haven't seen in some time.

Also, triune God just means they believe in the Trinity. So this would include the vast majority of Protestant churches , Catholic and Orthodox. At the time you are speaking of, Rhode Island was the anti-Puritan state, so it was made up of groups of people who the fought with the Puritans, this includes Quakers, Jews, Baptist and some Catholics. People tend to miss this point, but one of the most important reasons for the revolutionary war was to stop the Quaker incursion. The Quakers were the leaders of the other religious minority groups mentioned in Rhode Island. Quakers would eventually go on to have a prominent role in the primary education system and you end up where you are today.

Your "Thames" incident reminds me of a South Jersey custom of pronouncing the town of Buena (obviously derived from Spanish) as BYOO-nuh. We are, indeed, uncultured swine 🤣
